Locality supports local community organisations to be strong and successful.
Our vision is to create a fairer society where every community thrives. We believe local community organisations are the key. Every day they unlock the power of community. They know the place, the people, the problems, and they care.
Every week, our membership network supports over 400,000 people. Most of our members work in the poorest parts of the country. They run the services their community needs most – 15 different types on average. They create places where everyone belongs, like community centres, libraries, parks, swimming pools, cafes, pubs and more.
That’s why we support them. We provide specialist advice and peer-learning. We campaign for policies and funding that works better. Our specialist advisors cover everything from governance, to marketing, to community engagement. Our network connects community organisations through funded visits, events, and online communities. We work with members to campaign on the issues that matter most for community organisations, so they can get on with transforming lives.
In 2015, the Ministry for Homes, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), commissioned Locality to create mycommunity.org.uk
The site aimed to help people find out how they could make the changes they wanted to see in their community. Things like owning local assets, shaping their neighbourhood and delivering local services.
MHCLG gave Locality the licence to run My Community in 2018. Since then, we have brought together different organisations from throughout the Community sector. With their help, My Community will be your first place to look for advice. You'll be signposted to the best tools and resources in the community sector.
