In January 2021 the government set out plans to help the public convert vacant plots of land and derelict buildings into new homes or community spaces. In this blog Local Trust look at the opportunities that this reform could give for increased community power.

Local Trust argue that the reforms have the potential to strengthen community power. However, if community groups are to be able to make effective use of it, the legislation will need to address issues around transparency and bureaucratic processes, the affordability of land, and competition with private developers.
