Community-run post offices

In an age when so much of our everyday lives can be controlled by a few clicks on a mobile phone or tablet, it’s tempting to think that the days of local post offices are numbered.

Most community-owned post offices are hosted part-time in a community building and the organisation behind it doesn’t necessarily run the services themselves, but Darnall Forum set out to run their post office full-time and offer a full range of services. Darnall is also an unusual setting for a community-owned post office – it is a deprived inner-city area of Sheffield – most other examples are still in rural areas.

This guide looks at Darnell Forum’s story and provides further resources on community-run post office.
