Local Food Webinar

13 Jun

Tuesday 13 Jun 17 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Join us for a webinar on local food to get insight and learn what support is available for food-related community initiatives and developing businesses.

As part of the Bright Ideas Fund, funded through Power to Change and managed by Locality, we share learnings on the common questions we identified around developing training and employment, processing food, catering and start-ups, box schemes, community cafes, and engaging with wider communities, often those excluded.

This webinar if FREE and open to all.

Date: Tuesday 13 June 2017, 10-11:30

Agenda

  1. Introduction – There continues to be lots of interest in the direct and indirect benefits of growing and eating healthy food. – Mick McGrath, Bright Ideas Fund advisor from Locality, will provide examples of initiatives across the country
  2. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and what you will need to consider (Farm-led or community-led or both?), options for scale (from allotment-based CSA through to big farms), governance, and more
  3. Pros and cons of alternative enterprise models (Food hubs / farmers’ markets / community shops / food co-ops); setting up, finding producers, building community
  4. How the Open Food Network (OFN) can facilitate local food distribution: getting farmers, growers and processors online, selling via the internet

Parts 2-4 of the webinar will be led by Nick Weir; a Bright Ideas advisor, as well as founding member of Stroud Community Agriculture and Stroudco Food Hub. Nick supports other community groups drawing on this experience, and is helping to establish OFN in the UK.
