The community-led housing process

Do we have to secure the land before we start our project?

It is important to be very sure that the land or buildings can be secured before serious time or financial resources are committed to developing the project.

Funders usually require applicants to have a secure interest in the land i.e., to own it or to have a reasonable length of lease on it. Site acquisition may be undertaken through the open market, through community asset transfer, partnerships with property owning organisations,compulsory purchase (community asset transfer) by the local authority under certain circumstances, or other means. It may involve purchase, leasing, rental or other arrangements. It may be worth considering Community Right to Bid in terms of identifying suitable land.

Application process

My application link has expired. What do I do?

Your link to the application form will stay live for 30 days, during which time you can revisit it at any time.

It will automatically save the information you have entered provided that you have clicked the ‘next’ button on the relevant page. Once you have pressed the submit button on the final page you will not be able to make any further change or submit your form again.

After 30 days, your link will expire and your application will be lost.

Saving your application in the blank Word application forms

We recommend that you complete your application using the blank application forms in Word to record your answers for inputting into the electronic application form.

Get a new application link

To get a new application link, you need to complete the Expression of Interest form again.

This is why we recommend that you save your application in the blank application forms to ensure you have your answers stored safely.

If you have lost your application and have not used the blank Word application form to save your answers, please email neighbourhoodplanning@locality.org.uk.

I’ve completed the Expression of Interest form, but haven’t received an application link via email?

Once you have completed and submitted the expression of interest form, this will automatically generate an application form overnight.

If this doesn’t arrive in your email inbox within 12 hours, first try searching your inbox for an email from neighbourhoodplanning@locality.gov.uk.

Secondly, check your junk and spam folders – these are usually folders stored in or under your Inbox folder.

If you still can’t find the email, you will need to lodge another Expression of Interest form. Before you do this, please add neighbourhoodplanning@locality.org.uk to your safe senders list in your email settings (here’s how to do that in Outlook 2013).

When you complete another Expression of Interest form, please ensure that your email address is correct. You may also want to try with an alternative email address (such as a Gmail or Yahoo account) – some email addresses, such as @gov.uk, tend to automatically filter out unknown addresses.

If you still have not received it after completing two different email addresses and adding the email to the safe senders list, please call the My Community Advice Line on 0300 020 1864.

When do the grant applications close?

The closing dates for grants are as follows:

Grant funding

We are operating a rolling application window for this programme. Applications for grants in 2016-17 are now closed. All grants which are awarded in 2016-17 have to be spent by 31 March 2017 at the latest.

2017-18 programme

Applications for grant for 2017-18 can be submitted from 1 February 2017 until 1 October 2017. Expenditure through a grant must be completed by 31 December 2017.
